Rae will share findings from her PLD projects focused on the use of bilingual and additional language acquisition pedagogies, and provide examples from the use of Pasifika dual language books to facilitate Pasifika children’s biliteracy development. The impact of PLD on teachers’ translanguaging pedagogies and on children’s educational experiences will be shared, and implications for Māori, Pasifika and other bilingual learners in Ōtākou/Otago schools will be discussed.
Pauline (Vaeluaga) Smith will share about the journey to publishing her multi-award winning book My New Zealand Story: Dawn Raid. She will give some insight into the highs and lows she experienced during the publishing process. Pauline will share details of the education package developed to support the book and how this has been received across the country. The education package was developed in collaboration with Trish Wells, Senior Lecturer, Universtiy of Otago, College of Education.
