NZLA Social Media and Website Policy
Rationale
Social media and the website represent the public face of NZLA
Purpose
These protocols describe the expected conduct by NZLA when adding website content and participating in social media or social networking platforms.
Protocols
- NZLA social media and online communications must:
- be relevant
- meet specified goals or purposes
- maintain NZLA’s brand, identity, integrity and reputation
- avoid legal risks
- Adhere to the NZLA Guiding Principles
- Any copyrighted or confidential information requires written authorisation from NZLA Exec before publication and must be properly attributed.
- All content must conform to appropriate laws and regulations, as well as the NZLA Privacy Statement.
- Content must be polite and respectful, maintaining the same tone as if interacting in person on behalf of the organisation.
- Social media comments from the public that require a response will be addressed in a timely but thoughtful, and respectful manner.
- Any commercial product endorsed by NZLA must align with the NZLA Guiding Principles and have a connection to an NZLA or local council event.
- Any exec member can post on social media on behalf of NZLA.
- NZLA website content is added by the IT coordinator and/or one other designated exec member.
- New content for the NZLA website must be checked by the President or Secretary.
These guidelines form the basis of expectations for all local councils.
