Research Scholarship Policy for NZLA Members
Rationale
NZLA encourages and supports research in literacy education.
Purpose
To provide financial support to a current individual financial member of NZLA in order to undertake research in the field of literacy.
Award Provisions
The total value of the grant will be determined by the actual costs of the research proposal to a maximum of $5000.
These costs may include:
- Employment of relief staff in the absence of the recipient
- Travel and accommodation
- General expenses
Criteria for Selection
The proposal:
- Provides for in-depth research in the field of literacy in New Zealand
- Is based on sound educational research methodology
- Must be able to be completed within two years
Applications
Applications must include:
- Title and abstract
- The significance of the research
- Research question
- The research proposal outlining methodology and timeline
- Brief literature review
- Detailed outline of expected costs
- Ethical considerations
- Letter of commitment from the employer or academic supervisor
- Letter verifying current individual NZLA membership from the president of the local council
Award Requirements
Each scholarship holder will:
- Produce a brief update to executive after one year
- Submit a written report to Literacy Forum NZ within a year of completion
- Present at the next national conference, upon completion of the research
NZLA reserves the right not to offer the award every year.
NZLA reserves the right to rescind the award and ask for the scholarship money to be refunded if the requirements are not met.
